Audio: Dream A Little Dream With Sidibe

As far as the new breed of divas go, it takes a special voice and a particular kind of panache to capture my attention these days as I'm not always so easily bought and sold. Of the new names and faces that glide through my timelines and update feeds daily, Sidibe is one name that stands out as her first impression still holds up and exceeds expectations. Ever since I heard her ode to sisterhood love on her debut single, "See You Girl", later having her 2014 short-player Soul Siren on heavy rotation, Sidibe has found a permanent spot on my 'Drop Everything & Listen' list, and believe me, that's a good list to be on.

Sidibe, once again, has my undivided attention with her latest slice of sonic heaven, "I'm Only Dreaming". On first listen it's perfect for those who love their modern tunes on a nostalgia kick as the track has the feel of turning the dial to your once favored local (and now sorely extinct) old school R&B station. Filled with all the funky synths and bass licks that you could ever want, "I'm Only Dreaming" is right on retro with Sidibe's tapping into lovey-dovey harmonies that wink at the early days of Deniece Williams and Jody Watley-era Shalamar, some soft sax work needling into the mix to give it a nice post-disco flourish.

So drop everything and listen to what Sidibe has in store, and if you find yourself catching feelings be sure keep an eye out for the Los Angeles songbird's upcoming EP, which is due to arrive in the very near future.
